My doctoral research focuses on emotional contagion or convergence at the individual and group level. I am interested in the processes that underlie emotional contagion. Specifically the extent to which emotional contagion is dependent on a non-conscious reaction to others expressions or on a more conscious appraisal of how others are feeling. My research addresses factors, which may influence the transfer of emotions. For example, whether the perceived appropriateness of others emotional reactions moderates contagion effects. My research also addresses the circumstances, which influence the transfer of emotions in groups. For example, the extent to which emotional convergence in groups is dependent on members sharing an interpersonal history and the extent to which social identity with the group moderates the contagion process.
\
